Juneteenth Freedom Quilt 2020
Scotch Plains-Fanwood elementary students learned about Juneteenth, the earliest recorded celebration of the end to slavery, and our last day of school, June 19th, for the 2019-20 school year. Since our learning experiences were virtual, students created a virtual Community Freedom Quilt commemorating Juneteenth. The idea came from our community partner, Social Justice Matters, a local grassroots non-profit organization committed to active inquiry into matters of race in our society and to working towards an equitable community.
